NikNat. Nik is for Nikita and Nat is for Natasha. The creative force behind NikNat Music is a mother and daughter duo that is passionate about music. Nikita, with her daughter’s assistance started her first class in 2005 at the India Community Center in Milpitas with 5 kids.

The idea was to introduce the young American kids of Indian origin to the basics of Indian music with a view of teaching them music notes, alankaars and simple Hindi songs in a fun way. They carried posters, puppets, and musical instruments to the class to make the class more interactive and visual for the kids. Slowly, the concept grew to more creative learning with musical games, rhythm and movement and the number of kids and classes started growing.

The philosophy at NikNat Music School is to inspire the inquisitiveness of creative learners at an early age. The goal of our school is to not only introduce kids and adults to our rich culture of classical music along with improving their music skills and developing a lifelong love for music.

In 2008, the mother daughter launched their book “Gana Bajana” taking their concept to a new level and reaching out globally by selling the book through an online store. It also became the textbook for their first year students.

Soon they moved the school to their home in Fremont. Since then, Nikita Parikh manages the school independently as Natasha moved on to college. Over the course of 8 years, Nikita has taught music to more than 500 kids in the Bay Area and currently has expanded her teaching to young adults and grown-ups. She rigidly follows the traditions of Gwalior Gharana style while teaching Hindustani Classical Theory and incorporates all the lessons learnt from her various Gurus.
